The Square Golf launch monitor is designed to be your practice companion. This unit gives you key data about your impact and ball flight that you can use to improve your game. Key uses include:

Now we’re not expecting it to match £18,000 worth of tech but it gives us a good benchmark. Here’s what you need to know about its accuracy:

Driver Performance
- Ball speed is within 2.3 mph (slightly higher than actual)
- Launch angle is pretty accurate (+0.8°)
- Distance shows about 13 yards shorter than actual
- Side-to-side accuracy, 6-15 yards error
7-Iron Performance
- Excellent accuracy for ball speed (+0.6 mph)
- Launch angle spot on (+0.2°)
- Distance within 3 yards
- Side accuracy within 2 yards
Pitching Wedge Performance
- Very accurate ball speed (+0.2 mph)
- Launch angle slightly high (+1.1°)
- Distance accurate within 1 yard
- Side accuracy within 3.5 yards
The Square Golf launch monitor is surprisingly accurate for ball speed and distance measurements across all clubs. Where it falls short is tracking side-to-side accuracy, particularly with the driver where we saw up to 6 yards of error.
I should note, these were all pretty accurate shots (for me). My hunch is that as you hit more wayward shots, the Square Golf unit would be even less accurate – great news if you want to build your confidence, bad news if you want realistic feedback on your golfing performance.

The Square Golf Launch Monitor offers a flexible pricing model that stands out for its lack of subscription which you find with other launch monitors. The practice modes are free with a credits system for playing golf courses.
Priced at £699.99, it comes with 1,000 free credits—enough for about 55 rounds of golf. The pay-as-you-play model allows users to top up credits as needed, making it a budget-friendly choice for golfers who may not use a simulator consistently or just want it for indoor range practice.

Hardware
The basic unit comes with a launch monitor, golf balls (designed to optimise tracking) and remote control and a swing stick for golf without a golf club.
We haven’t focused on the golf stick in this review, but it offers a way for golf swing practice in a small indoor space when you can’t hit golf balls.

Software
The Square Golf launch monitor comes with a free app that works on iOS, Android or Windows. This allows you to run on a computer, tablet or your phone. Good news and most home golf simulator setups need an iPad or computer to link to a projector.
The app connects very easily but it is clunky to use and navigate. You will be able to navigate the main modes pretty easily, but saving and storing and saving data is a pain, more of an issue for us testing this than an issue for most recreational golfers.
Golf Insider Verdict
This is a very cool device for golfers wanting to power a home golf studio for under £1000. The fact it sits next to the golf ball rather than behind makes it a great pick if you are short of space indoors, as something like the Garmin Approach R10 needs a lot more space.
For higher handicap golfers wanting to work on their game, and get a good idea of distances and a rough idea of shot shape, the Square Golf launch monitor will do the job nicely. However, if you’re a low handicapper or need precise dispersion data, you may need to look elsewhere.

The purchase of the Square Launch Monitor was a major disappointment. I had problems with the unit’s Bluetooth connection, attempting to complete upgrades, and accurate shot carry distances. I attempted to contact their Customer Support for 5 days and never received a response. Unit was returned and waiting for refund. Do not buy the Square Launch Monitor since problem solving will be your responsibility.
